Day 01 Arrive in Kolkata by evening flight. Meeting & assistance on arrival.

At present Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located in eastern India on the east bank of the River Hooghly, the city is a colonial city developed by the British East India Company and then the British Empire.Kolkata, the capital of British India. Calcutta the city of joy was established in the year 1686, as a result of the expansion plans of the British Raj. Calcutta derived its name from the village name of kalikata.

In 1911 British India, followed by the shifting of capital of India from Calcutta to New Delhi. In 2001, Calcutta was officially renamed Kolkata.

Day 02 KOLKATA (Full day city tour)

Drive for sightseeing of Kolkata City include visiting of Jain Temple, Dalhousie Square & Indian Museum.
Jain Temple :

Pareshnath Jain temple is a very famous temple of Calcutta that was built by an art connoisseur named Ray Badridas Bahadur in 1867. Jain temple is a mind-blowing place of worship, the beauty of which is enhanced by mirrors and colored stones. It houses four different temples, & religious destination.

Drive pass of Dalhousie Square – While Driving pass of Dalhousie Square where you come across several colonial buildings like Governor’s House, High Court of Kolkata, Metcalfe Hall, GPO, Writer’s Building, St. Andrew’s Kirk, Currency Building, Telegraph Office and Visit to St. John’s Church.

The erstwhile Dalhousie Square with a lake at the centre – is the administrative nerve centre of Kolkata. Writer’s Building on the north side of the square dates from 1880 represents Gothic-style architecture and is now the administrative office of the ruling Marxist Government.

 Visit of Indian Museum (Closed on Monday) :
Indian Museum: which is the largest and the best museum in the country, the Museum was established at the Asiatic Society, the earliest learned body in the country on 2nd February 1814. Transferred to the present building in 1878 with two galleries, the Museum has now over sixty galleries of Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Botany sections, spreading over ten thousand square feet area. It is also one of the oldest in Asia. The museum preserves more than 54000 coins which are more than 2400 years old.

Victoria Memorial – is one of Kolkata’s most famous landmarks known as a monument where history comes alive. Some historians claim that it was an attempt by the British to build a monument that would rival Taj Mahal in terms of beauty and elegance. Although the final completed specimen could not match up with the Taj, it still possesses a charm & artistic brilliance of its own. The Victoria Memorial yet reveals the global attraction for the monument of love even in those days. It was opened on 1921. There are enormous oil paintings in the Royal Gallery, illustrating episodes from queen Victoria’s long, eventful life and reign, an impressive collection of the British colonial period.
Visit Mother Teresa’s House
Mother Teresa’s House located in downtown Lansing, is a home for people with terminal illness. In reverence for life and for the end of life, the men and women who serve there surround the dying person with loving, personal care around the clock.

Day 03 KOLKATA / BAGDOGRA / DARJEELING,

After breakfast in the morning, proceed towards Gulmarg. Enroute you get to see the beautiful Tangmarg town and drive ahead on a scenic drive of 14 kilometers to Gulmarg. Arrive in Gulmarg early in the afternoon. Later, begin a short tour, boarding the Gondola cable car system (the 08 minutes ropeway). Descend back to Gulmarg after an hour and later indulge in some horse-riding.  Overnight stay  at hotel in Srinagar

Day 04 DARJEELING (Full day Tour)
0300 hrs : wake up in the morning
0330 hrs : Start to drive  for a trip to Tiger Hill to catch a Spectacular view of sunrise from Tiger hill, Darjeeling,(Subject to clear weather conditions) over Kanchandzonga, Situated at an altitude of 2590 meters (8482 ft.) and 12 kilometers from the town,
Tiger Hill of Darjeeling – Situated at an altitude of 2590 meters (8482 ft.) and 11 kilometers from the town, this spot has earned international fame for the magnificent view of the sunrise over the “Kanchenjunga” and the great eastern Himalayan Mountains. Even Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak is 255 km from here, is visible from here. The hesitant rays of the early morning sun paint these peaks in pale gold. This is a rare sight. As the sun rises, the color of the mountain changes, which is an amazing sight.
Later return to Hotel for Breakfast. On the way back you can see Ghoom monastery – This is oldest Monastery in the area which was built in 1875 and one can see the image of Mythey Buddha 15ft. height on the way back from Tiger Hill and Batasia Loop.

Start sightseeing of Darjeeling town includes visiting Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoological Garden Happy Valley Tea Estate.
1330 hrs : Visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was set up following the successful ascent of the Mount Everest-the highest peak in the world by the local hero Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on 28 May 1953. The institute has an interesting Everest Museum and also offers some mountaineering and adventure courses. Situated on the Jawahar Parvat, the institute is famous for its unique collection of mountaineering equipment and findings. Apart from Tenzing, legendary mountaineers like Nawang Gombu (the first man to climb Everest twice) and Lattoo Dorjee Sherpa have helped build the reputation of this pioneering institute. The institute is presently under the purview of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India and its museum is worth a visit.
1430 hrs : Visit Zoological Gardens or Darjeeling Zoo
Visit Zoological Gardens-It was formerly known as Himalayan Zoological Park and was established on 14th August, 1958 in Darjeeling.

The Zoo was re-named as Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park.

this is the only specialized Zoo in the country and in internationally recognized for its conservation breeding programmes of Red Panda, Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolf and other highly endangered animal species of Eastern Himalaya.

1600 hrs : Happy Valley Tea Estate
Happy Valley Tea Estate: – Happy Valley Tea Estate was established in the year 1854 by David Wilson, an Englishman, who had named the garden Wilson Tea Estate and by 1860 had started cultivation of tea. In 1903, Happy Valley Tea Estate was taken over by an Indian, gave the name Happy Valley tea estate. Teas grown on the misty heights of Darjeeling, popularly known as the ‘Champagne of Tea’ are famous world over for their exquisite taste. The premium Darjeeling teas are mild in character and have distinctive natural fruity flavors. The different steps in Tea manufacture can be seen in the factory of Happy Valley Tea Estate.The estate produces world class Darjeeling Tea and is one of the oldest and most renowned tea estates in Darjeeling.

Day 05 DARJEELING / GANGTOK BY SURFACE (98 KM 04 HRS DRIVE)

Visit Tibetan refugee camp -The area in and around Darjeeling is a treasure chest of interesting destinations. The Tibetan Refugee self-help scheme produces traditional artifacts, jewellery and carpets for tourist consumption.
Drive to Darjeeling Railway station to board for TOY TRAIN  RIDE

1400 hrs : Pick up & drive towards Gangtok’ 98 KM 04 hrs drive
Gangtok- capital of the state of Sikkim & Gangtok, the land of monasteries, is also the largest town of Sikkim. Situated in the Shivalik Hillsan attractive tourist destination. Gangtok reflects a unique ambience which derives from its happy blend of tradition and modernity. Alongside the deeply felt presence of stupas and monasteries, Some of the key places to visit in and around Gangtok are Rumtek Monastry, Do-Drul Chorten, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point and the local bazaar, Lal Bazaar. Day excursions can be made to Tsomgo, Nathula Pass and Fambong La wildlife sanctuary.

Day 06 GANGTOK (Full day)

Drive to Tsogmo Lake or Changu Lake.
Tsomgo Lake: -35 Kms from Gangtok at an altitude of 12,400 feet is the beautiful Tsomgo Lake, which freezes over in winter. The lake derives its waters from melting snows off the surrounding mountains. Legends say that lamas could forecast the future by studying the color of the lake’s waters. Fishing is totally prohibited and all are requested not to dirty the environs of the lake to maintain its sanctity. Above the 15th Mile Sikkim Police check post lies the unique high altitude Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary, home of the Red Panda and the Blood Pheasant, which are the state animal and the state bird respectively.

Visit to Namgyal Institute of Tibetology: –Amidst a serene surrounding of oak, birch and ash lies the unique organization established in1958. Built in traditional style, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology promotes research in Mahayana Buddhism and the language and tradition of Tibet. It has one of the world’s largest collections of rare books and manuscripts on Mahayana Buddhism. The Institute also has retail outlets where related books and commercially produced religious art and craft of Tibet can be bought.
Later visit to The Enchey Monastery
The Enchey Monastery: -Perched on a ridge above Gangtok, the Enchey Monastery is nestled within lush woods with a spectacular view of Gangtok town. Built in 1910 on the site of the hermitage of the great tantric saint, Lama Drutob Karpo, who was renowned for his powers of levitation, this monastery houses the monks of the Nyingmapa Order of Tibetan Buddhism.

Rumtek Monastery: – is the awe -inspiring Rumtek Monastery, the world Dharma chakra Centre and the seat of His Holiness, the Gyalwa Karmapa, who is the head of the Kagyupa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Behind the main monastery is the lavishly decorated Karmae Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Studies, which attracts students from the world over. Opposite the entrance to the Institute is a small hall featuring a beautiful jewel studded Chorten the Golden Stupa, which contains the ashes and remains of His Holiness the xvi Gyalwa Karmapa. According to legend, it is believed that after years of meditation, the first Karmapa was said to have been visited by ten thousand fairies who came to congratulate him each of whom offered a strand of her hair as a gift. These were said to have been woven into a black hat, which was passed down and is still at the Rumtek Monastery today. It is said that unless held on to by the wearer (who of course, cannot be anyone else but the Karmapa) or kept in a box, the hat would fly away.
